Front yard of the Old Court House, Port Augusta 5700 SA, 22nd of September of 2017

Also this year, the students from the Master of Architecture and Landscape Architecture of the School of Architecture and Built Environment of the University of Adelaide returned to Port Augusta for an intensive on site urban design studio, between the 18th and 22nd of September.
The purpose of this year studio is to reclaim space that is currently underused and to highlight the beauty of the historical centre. At the same time the project is aimed at engaging the community to share ideas on the future of Port Augusta.

CONCEPT CONTEST

On Monday the 18th of September at the Institute Theatre in Commercial rd., the students presented and displayed their projects for a spatial installation in the CBD to a public audience, including the Vice-Mayor, the CEO and the city planners of the Port Augusta city council.
The audience and jury voted for the best projects and chosen the proposal to be realized: “City in the mirror”, the concept resulted from a combination of winning ideas, will be realized by the UELab’s students in just three days, and launched in a public event on Friday the 22nd of September.

DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

From Tuesday the 19th to Friday the 22nd of September the students have worked to design and build the winning concept: a little water pond will be realized in front of the Old Court House and color paper boats will be sailed to communicate impressions and moods of the Port Augusta citizens.
